Half Dreaming
00/00 - 00/00
This was one of the worst professional experiences I’ve ever had. The company is very small, run by a couple, and operates entirely remotely. For the summer, they rented an office space for us to work from, and during the first three weeks, they were present regularly. However, after that, they would stop by in the morning to briefly give us instructions, and then leave almost immediately always with an excuse like a call, an appointment, or something else. This became a daily patte
They assigned us a huge workload that didn’t match the compensation, and we were expected to handle tasks well beyond the scope of our roles as designers. Often, we were required to complete projects on platforms we had never used before and were given unrealistic deadlines—sometimes being told to design and upload full websites in just two hours, despite not being developers.
What was especially frustrating was that they would send our work directly to clients without reviewing it first. On one occasion, an error slipped through, and instead of taking responsibility, they blamed us even though they never gave feedback or properly checked the work.
Their communication was poor throughout the internship. Instructions were vague, feedback was inconsistent or nonexistent, and there was little to no support when we needed clarification or guidance. Worst of all, they often assigned tasks they didn’t understand, expecting us to figure everything out on our own with little time or resources.
But the biggest thing that upset me was that they lied. During the interview process, they promised we would have workshops and presentations with professionals from other industries to help us grow and network. That never happened. Not even once.
Overall, it was a deeply disappointing and unprofessional experience.
